Clay Space Brooklyn: Delivering a Creative Hub on Time Despite COVID-19
Clay Space on Cayler Street in Brooklyn is a creative hub for artistic activities, workshops, and community engagement. Reem Construction completed work there in 2021, during a period of COVID-19-related procurement, workforce, and site-access constraints.
The full scope of the Clay Space build-out reflects the complexity of delivering a specialized creative commercial space. Structural framing and interior build-out established the open, flexible layout the client envisioned. Drywall, flooring, and precision finishing work created the clean, modern aesthetic appropriate for an arts-focused venue. Custom design elements were developed in close coordination with the project's architects and designers to bring specific creative functionality to each zone — from pottery workshops and studio spaces to event areas and gallery zones.
The mechanical and electrical scope required coordination of lighting, HVAC, plumbing, and workshop sinks within the studio's open layout. Reem Construction coordinated those specialty trades with the framing, finishes, and design requirements for the build-out.
The COVID-19 period created supply-chain, workforce, and site-access constraints. The construction plan had to account for material availability, crew sequencing, and evolving access requirements; exact schedule outcomes should be confirmed against the project records.
Clay Space today serves artists, creators, and visitors from across Brooklyn as a hub for pottery, workshops, exhibitions, and community events. It is a space that needed to be built to a high standard of craft while also being built efficiently under difficult conditions. For business owners planning creative, retail, or community spaces in Brooklyn and across New York City, Clay Space is a model of what's possible when you have the right construction partner.
